Jerry White
Jerry White is one of Gander’s most successful entrepreneurs and businessmen. He started his career – and first business – as a welder in 1963 and kept a hands-on approach ever since. A risktaker and sound decision-maker, Mr. White saw tremendous opportunity in Gander and in the early 1970’s, he founded a small construction firm that would eventually become the McCurdy Group of Companies.
The group has grown to become a major employer in central Newfoundland and one of the largest business groups in Gander. It includes McCurdy Construction, McCurdy Ready Mix, McCurdy Enterprises, B&M Paving and Canada Wet Corporation.
Despite the size and success of the company, Mr. White has always maintained a hands-on style that has endeared him to his employees and customers. It is not unusual to see him at the controls of a tractor in the morning and meeting with the Mayor of Gander to explain the technical details of a construction project in the afternoon.
Mr. White is a true community-minded businessman who strongly supports the Health Care Foundation both in Gander and St. John’s and serves as a mentor to many young entrepreneurs.
