JA Newfoundland and Labrador Announces 2024 Business Hall of Fame Inductees

Friday, March 15th, 2024.

The achievements of these business leaders will be recognized at the May 30 th, 2024 Gala Dinner and Induction Ceremony at the Delta St. John’s.

The inductees:

  • Charlene Brophy, President & CEO of FONEMED
  • Kevin King, Executive Chairman, KMK Capital Inc.
  • Peter Woodward, President & CEO, Woodward Group of Companies

Since 1990, the JA Newfoundland and Labrador Business Hall of Fame has recognized and celebrated business excellence in our province. In addition to celebrating excellence, the Business Hall of Fame is JA’s signature fundraiser, supporting work that focuses on financial health, workforce learning and entrepreneurship. Junior Achievement (JA) is a registered charity whose purpose is to inspire and prepare young people to succeed in a global economy. In Newfoundland and Labrador, JA delivers programs to students in grades 3 -12. Programs are delivered in-person, virtually and through hybrid models.

A little more about this year's Inductees:

Charlene Brophy . Charlene is president & CEO of FONEMED, a globally renowned telehealth and virtual care enterprise. Charlene has extended her firsthand understanding of the healthcare system to underserved regions in developing countries and communities across North America, Latin America and Asia. FONEMED's team of several hundred employees facilitates Canadian, US and international operations, ensuring healthcare access for over 40 million individuals globally. They oversee upwards of 100,000 remote patient visits each month, bridging the gap in healthcare accessibility for communities that would otherwise lack essential services.

Kevin King In 1992, Kevin founded Perennial Management Limited, a property management company which marked the beginnings of KMK Capital Inc. Under Kevin’s leadership, the KMK Capital Group of companies has since grown into one of Newfoundland and Labrador’s largest, vertically-integrated real estate developer and has expanded outside Newfoundland and Labrador with developments in Alberta and the United States. The KMK Capital group of companies now contains over 40 companies that deal with all aspects of real estate development including acquisition and development of land, construction, engineering, property management and sales and leasing.

Peter Woodward. Peter is the president & CEO of The Woodward Group of Companies, a diversified family-owned business based in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Labrador. Its interests are primarily in rural Newfoundland & Labrador with ventures in the Eastern Arctic. The company has significant interests in oil distribution, automotive, marine ferries, coastal supply tankers, military contracting and real estate. Woodward's Oil has been serving the petroleum and transportation needs of Labrador customers since 1960. The Woodward Group of Companies employs in excess of 800 Newfoundlanders and Labradorians and is headquartered in Happy Valley-Goose Bay.
