Junior Achievement of Newfoundland and Labrador announces the 2023 Business Hall of Fame Inductees

The achievements of these business leaders will be recognized at the May 25th, 2023 Gala Dinner and Induction Ceremony at the St. John’s Convention Centre.

The inductees:

  • Brian Dalton, president & CEO Altius Minerals
  • Patrick and Florence White, owners/operators of Exploits Valley Air Services (EVAS Air) and PFW Holdings Ltd.
  • Anne Whelan, CEO, Seafair Capital

Since 1990, the JA Newfoundland and Labrador Business Hall of Fame has recognized and celebrated business excellence in our province. In addition to celebrating excellence, the Business Hall of Fame is JA’s signature fundraiser, supporting work that focuses on financial health, workforce learning and entrepreneurship. Junior Achievement (JA) is a registered charity whose purpose is to inspire and prepare young people to succeed in a global economy. In Newfoundland and Labrador, JA delivers programs to students in grades 3 -12. Programs are delivered in-person, virtually and through hybrid models.

A little more about this year's Inductees:

Brian Dalton. Brian co-founded Altius 25 years ago as a less than $1 million dollar valued mineral exploration company and has led its evolution into a significant diversified royalty company with annual revenues of more than $80 million dollars. In addition to his ongoing role as CEO of Altius, Brian has served in capacities ranging from advisor, director, Chairman and CEO to various spinout and investee companies of Altius as well as numerous charitable and industry organizations. 

Patrick and Florence White. Patrick and Florence founded Exploits Valley Air Services Ltd. in 1992. The company started with a single aircraft, flying charters across Newfoundland and Labrador, steadily gaining a foothold in North America and Europe growing its operations to newer fields. Today, EVAS Air offer various services including specialized modifications to the Beechcraft 1900 series, comprehensive MRO Solutions, ACMI Leasing, Air Ambulance services and Private Charter and Cargo operations. In addition to growing their business ventures, Patrick and Florence are very involved with community and supporters of varied organizations.

Anne Whelan. Anne is an entrepreneur, corporate director, and health care leader as well as principal shareholder and Chief Executive Officer of Seafair, with investments in community and behavioural health, wellness, and safety. Anne has worked in the community sector for over 25 years, founding several care organizations, and contributing to national healthcare standards. In addition to leading her group of companies, Anne serves on the Board of Directors of the Bank of Canada where she chairs the Audit Committee, and is also a Director with CSA Group and Nova Leap Health (NLH:CVE), and Vice-Chair of The Gathering Place.
