John Patten

In 1978, John graduated from university with a Degree in Economics and began work in the family business, Browning Harvey Ltd. He learned the business from its grass roots and in 2005, was appointed President. John also has roles within A. Harvey & Company, Harvey’s Oil, the Patten Family Foundation and Trans-Atlantic Preforms.

With John’s leadership, Browning Harvey has prospered. His vision for growth has led to significant investment in plant infrastructure, facilities and technology. There is always a focus on environmental sustainability and a focus on people and processes to support product quality and safety.

To ensure relevance and to adapt to changing customer demands, the company has increased product offerings by 23 percent. Browning Harvey Ltd. is the second largest Labatt distributor in the province and has 65% of the carbonated soft drink market, the highest in the country. Browning Harvey Ltd. employs more than 200 individuals.

John has been recognized as an employer of distinction by the Newfoundland and Labrador Employers Council and has received PepsiCo’s prestigious North American Bottler of the Year Award. He has served on numerous boards, is a mentor and supports many charities.

Tonight, John joins his parents Susan and Charles Patten and his grandfather, Alexander John Harvey, in the Junior Achievement Newfoundland and Labrador Business Hall of Fame.
